I chose the IWS course and took the distance learning option - well structured and very useful to me as a wine tutor lecturing in different wine regions. It gives me a reliable base structure of different regions.

WSG has an organized approach with a very good web site, excellent resource materials and online learning. Alan Tardi was a very good Unit 1 teacher...his explanations about the wines and region complexities were excellent. His Italian heritage (for pronunciation, historical explanations, etc.) was very important for my study, too.

WSG has succeeded in creating a program that is clear to understand, pleasant to read with books that are very visual too, having precise maps that are of great use. It's worth mentioning the knowledgeable tutors (Andrea and Alan, in particular) who answer any question the students have in a precise, scrupulous manner and without ever proving to be pedantic.

WSG uses a systematic approach to wine studies. I am very pleased with how multiple sections of study material are available to the student. I have completed courses from WSET and Court of Masters and WSG meets or exceeds in learning material and presentation.

I am so glad that I took the Italian Wine Scholar program through Wine Scholar Guild. Italy and it's wines can be very overwhelming, but the way that the courses and study materials are broken down really help to make things easier to understand. Each region is unique but you also can get a sense of the country as a whole. The support of Andrea and the WSG team was much appreciated and invaluable towards my education!

An excellent course that provides context and background as to how the world of Italian wine has evolved under influencing factors. Deep dives into appellations and touches on the technical details according to the diciplinare of each region. A fantastic journey that has ignited a passion for a country and wine, whereas once was my Achilles heel is now my area of strength and expertise.

The Wine Wine Scholar Guild has again exceeded my expectations with its comprehensive research into the diverse world of Italian wine. Unique, indigenous grapes and how they contribute to an ever-changing viticultural heritage of Italy is a message any wine scholar will find difficult to ignore.

This course is made even more interesting and educational with the knowledgeable contributions of our instructor, Alan Tardi.

Given the hybrid nature of this program offering, I was hesitant at first. But within 1 or 2 Zoom sessions, it became quite clear that it would be just as easy to learn as conventional classroom scenarios--but perhaps even more convenient! It was also discovered by most attendees, that we were having as much fun while embracing this newer Covid-friendly model of study.
Mark Shipway's style of teaching is engaging, thorough + he was very reassuring about all the many details one needs to know to successfully complete and pass the program. -ty

This was my first Wine Scholar Guild experience and I couldn't be happier. The course material is thorough, engaging, challenging, and clear. The instructors (from Cellar Muse in Seattle) were perfect! I felt better prepared for that examination than I've been for any in the past. I'm looking forward to starting Unit 2 in 3 weeks!

I have just taken the exam for Unit 1 of Italian Wine Scholar and feel very confident on how it went.
The course text book is jammed packed of the need to know information, as well as extra bits which aid understanding.
The website is so beneficial, and I wouldn't have got the confidence of going into the exam without it. The online resources, the practice exam questions and flip cards were all so helpful.
I can't wait for Unit 2!

This is a really in-depth look at Northern Italy with plenty of time devoted to Piemonte and Veneto as the two key regions. For me, though, it was fascinating to get into regions I was unfamiliar with, such as Val d'Aosta and Liguria plus building my knowledge of Lombardia and Friuli.
The wine selection complemented the teaching very well with some interesting new varieties that I enjoyed for the first time.
What is also good about the course is that history, culture and food are given plenty of coverage which helps to put the wines in their real context.

I am not a wine professional, rather a serious 'hobbyist'. I have both lived and worked in Italy and know the wines reasonably well. But taking Unit 1 of Italian Wines gave a whole other meaning to knowing those wines. I followed on line learning through the class offered, coupled with a study group with friends, as had been suggested. This together with the course book and the on-line teaching material gave me a very well rounded, useful and applicable education. I look forward to Unit 2 and can recommend the WSG as a serious and effective source for learning to wine enthusiasts and professionals alike.

The IWS Unit 1 course was an incredible deep dive into the wines and winemaking regions of Northern Italy. I went into the course knowing only the basics and finished with a deep knowledge of not only the wines themselves but how they fit into the complex history and rich traditions of Italy. I am eager to continue with Unit 2!
