The IWS program is complex, however the information is presented in a way that helps you learn and most importantly retain knowledge. Completing this program has finally given me a clear understandIng of this incredibly diverse country, it’s history, varietals, vinicultural practices and it’s wonderful people.

I already have my Somm, Certified Specialist of Wine, and WSET III wine certifications and the IWS Unit 1 has been my favorite session so far. Cannot wait for IWS Unit 2

I truly love the WSG courses. The only thing I might change is offering immediate exam results like the Society of Wine Educators does with the CSW. I took my exam 4 days ago and am still awaiting my results via email, and since I took it digitally online, I know the results were scored immediately.

I enjoyed studying for the IWS unit 1 with Awsec just as much as unit 2. The material was excellent and the tuition fun and engaging. I don’t work in the industry but for an enthusiast such as myself I think the WSG IWS is an excellent course to follow.

The combination of history, viticulture, climate and soil of each region made the wines seem more vital and memorable. A highlight was learning about the continuation of so many unique grape varieties despite political dictates, war and climatic challenges, and provided some insight to the enduring mystique of wine.

The Italian Wine Scholar Unit I is the third Wine Scholar Guild course that I have taken--along with the French Wine Scholar Course and the Italian Wine Scholar Unit II--and I can't wait for the launch of the Spanish Wine Scholar course.
The courses are all beautifully comprehensive with the inclusion of the history, geography, and unique viticulture of each region. The manual and the online materials are well-presented and extensive and allow the student to be well-prepared for the post-nominal exam. I have been introduced to wines that I might never have experienced if not for these courses. I now feel confident shopping for wines, and pairing them with a variety of cuisines. I routinely enjoy a wider variety of wines than I had before I took the courses. Finally, I have a far greater appreciation for the commitment of generations of wine growers who love the land and the wines they produce.

In the chaos that can be Italian wines, the IWS program is a great tool for the student looking to sift through the immense amount of material and get right to the important parts.

I have always felt that Italy was my Achilles heel in the wine world, so naturally the Italian Wine Scholar program was the logical solution. Unit 1 was an excellent introduction into Northern Italy and I am excited to start Unit 2 as soon as possible.

Italian Wine Scholar Unit 1 absolutely opened my eyes to the depth of the world of Italian wine. I thought I knew plenty having completed the WSET 3 Award in Wines, but that was very much just the tip of the iceberg. Now that I've dipped my toes into what the Wine Scholar Guild has to offer through its Wine Scholar programs, I can't wait to finish Unit 2, as well as French and Spanish Wine Scholar in the future.

I learnt so much and had great fun during the Italian Wine Scholar course! For the 8 weeks of the programme, going to class very Monday evening was the highlight of my week, and it's made me want to do all the other wine scholar courses.

I would recommend the course highly for those not only interested in Wine but also Italy in general, as it covers all aspects of viticulture but also history, politics, law relating to wine and geography. A very entertaining course.

Italian Wine Scholar is another excellent course by Wine Scholar Guild. As with French Wine Scholar, IWS program is well-designed to provide learners with all the need-to-know information in concisely written study guides. The on-line learning materials of individual wine regions including the maps, flashcards, quizzes supplement and benefit the learning experience. IWS makes learning Italian wines fun and enjoyable!

IWS unit 1 is a well thought out program that illustrates the different regions and grape varietals as well as some background Italian history and culture. Even though I have done WSET diploma, this course furthered my understanding and I will definitely be taking unit 2.
