Having recently completed the Spanish Wine Scholar program after taking French Wine Scholar and Italian Wine Scholar Units 1 & 2, I'm excited to see the Wine Scholar Guild keeps going from strength to strength. The study manual for each program is as comprehensive a summary of these important wine producing countries as a student and lover of wine could hope for. The materials are immediately approachable and the online resources simple and straightforward to navigate. Anyone who embarks on the WSG programs will find themselves immediately immersed in their chosen country's history, culture, climate and winemaking traditions.

The Spanish Wine Scholar program is a fantastic look at Spain and it's wines through multiple lenses: history, geography, climates, and wine styles! The Spanish wine Scholar course was superbly taught by Jimmy Smith and Quentin Sadler, a fantastic dream team for this course. The lessons were very enjoyable and taught in an engaging and enthusiastic manner which showed the teachers’ love and deep knowledge of Spanish wines and regions. The material was presented in a fluid manner, we didn’t feel that it was all hastily crammed together, and both teachers were prompt in answering students’ questions around the wines and the regions. The choice of wines tasted showed that a lot of thought and care went into it to give us an accurate picture of wine styles in each region. Bravo and thank you!!!

The inclusion of the Historical and Cultural material in the course, makes learning about the wines so much more enjoyable. Being able to link style and flavour to not only topography and climate, but to regional influence as well gives a greater understanding and connection to the different 'terroir'

Well written and prepared course for the beginner just starting their journey into wine, but also for more seasoned wine professionals, this course delves deeper into the whole of Spain, covering not just D.O's but also V.T's, V.C's and Vinos de Pago giving a very clear view of the hierarchy within the country, as well as all the fundamentals of history, regulations and climate etc. It is sure to be a go to reference guide for years to come.

Having taken the French, Italian, and now, Spanish Wine Scholar remote self-study courses, I would highly recommend them all. If you really want to get a complete understanding of the wine regions Europe's most iconic wine regions this is the place. Enjoyable to read, easy to understand and amazingly thorough. Avid enthusiast or industry professional, you will not be disappointed.

The course was a lot more than a standard wine course it covered history/ culture / food and major sightseeing opportunities
Whilst I learnt a lot about Spanish Wines I also learnt even more about Spain

This is a great course. It covers history of Spain (particularly in relation to the wine industry), geography, climate and of course all the different wine styles throughout the Country. All of the autonomous communities, and the main DOP's are covered in detail. I would highly recommend it.

The WSG qualifications are excellent and I recommend them to all those interested in wine.

They build on the more generalist qualifications run by other bodies and enable a more in-depth review of the key countries and specific regions. The course material is well set out and goes well beyond the syllabus enabling students to expand their knowledge even further. They really are great books to research a country's wines.

The historical and political background notes also add just enough detail to put everything into context.

Spanish Wine Scholar has been a true revalation for me. After 8 years in wine industry this was the first time i was really able to dive deep into Spain as wine country. SWS helped me trully understand, appreciate and strengthen my love and passion for spanish wines and culture. Certainly it is a massive beggining of my spanish journey, that i hope will last a lifetime. I totally recommend taking any of WSG programms of one's choice for anyone who is as passionate as i am in order to get some really serious and in depth knowledge on subject. Bravo WSG! I loved the depth of the materials, and Rick Fisher has a way of simplifying the hardest subjects. The book is one of the most important reference books I have, and can always count on it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Spanish Wine Scholar course, which provided detailed information about the wines and wine regions of Spain. The instructional materials were concise, comprehensive, and fun to read.

Mimi Martin and her fellow instructors at Portland's Wine and Spirit Archive knew the subject matter inside and out and purveyed it in a clear, enthusiastic, and professional manner.

It is a deep, but very well structured course, with lots of information that are usually impossible to find all in one place elsewhere.
The manual has a clear writing and very beautiful maps. Each appellation is precisely broken down into percentage of wine styles, soil, authorized grapes, preferred grapes etc, making the learning easier. In fact I would like this structure to be adopted also in the manual of other programs, like the Italian Wine Scholar.

The WSG Spanish Wine Scholar course is an enjoyable, informative and well-structured learning programme that provides an insightful overview whilst going through each of the regions in detail. The history, diverse landscapes, climates and peoples that make up Spain and how they contribute to the many different styles of wines produced there are brought together in their program. I'd recommend it to anyone with an appreciation of Spanish wine or wine in general.

Spain is a huge wine country and you can easily get lost in the numerous wine regions and appellations.
