In recent years, viticulture and winemaking in Abruzzo have made leaps forward in terms of quality. In turn, these wines have found an increasingly global audience and are now more likely to be found near you.

The dramatic advances are undoubtedly thanks to the constant and tireless efforts made by a new generation of producers. Many talented winemakers and communicators are dedicated to the enhancement of the region, placing a focus on the most important indigenous grape varieties of Abruzzo.

Session 1: Discovering Abruzzo’s Viticultural Heritage

WSG Italian Programs Director, Andrea Eby, will guide you through the storied past and present of Abruzzo's wine culture. You’ll journey across the region's varied landscapes, learning about the climate and soils that make Abruzzo a hidden gem in viticulture. From the Apennine foothills to the Adriatic Sea, you'll explore the nuances of local grape varieties and the viticultural practices that shape their character. Andrea Eby is joined by a select group of Abruzzo’s leading winemakers for an interactive panel discussion. Delve into the heart of the region’s wine revolution as the speakers share personal insights on what sets their wines apart. This session focuses on the present and future of Abruzzo’s winemaking, highlighting the innovations and traditions that continue to enhance the reputation and distinctiveness of its wines on the world stage.

Andrea Eby

WSG Italian Programs Director, Vinitaly Italian Wine Ambassador

Andrea is the Italian Programs Director for Wine Scholar Guild. She researched, developed co-wrote the Wine Scholar Guild’s Italian Wine Essentials program, which first launched as IWS Prep in 2020.

Andrea is a Stage 2 Master of Wine student with a degree in Education. She completed the Diploma in Wine and Spirits (with Distinction) from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET)® in 2017 and was awarded the Prowein Scholarship in recognition of her academic achievements. Andrea is a Vinitaly International Academy Italian Wine Ambassador and Certified Sommelier.

Andrea is also an instructor for WSET® and works as an assessor in their Educator Training Program. She has worked as a wine buyer, cellar hand and is a member of the expert judging panels at the International Wine & Spirits Competition, International Wine Challenge and Vinitaly 5-Star Wines.
