On May 25, 1728, a royal decree authorized the transport of Champagne wine in baskets of 50 or 100 bottles to the ports of Normandy. A few months later, this decision prompted Nicolas Ruinart, nephew of Dom Ruinart and a cloth merchant, to found the first Champagne house. Recorded in the account book, the founding act of Maison Ruinart was written on September 1, 1729, in Reims. The first Champagne house was born.
