Domaine Pignier

With their 12ha of scrupulously-farmed biodynamic vineyards all close to the winery in Montaigu, above Lons-le-Saunier, the Pignier siblings, Antoine, Jean-Etienne and Marie-Florence have built this historic winery into a superb estate that values Jura's heritage to the extent of trialling a range of old grape varieties. Now a new generation is gradually arriving with Antoine's son Thibaut taking over the winemaking, but few changes are planned. The wines include superb Crémants, no-or-low sulfite reds, Sauvageon - a topped-up Savagnin aged in concrete eggs, and a range of oak-aged topped up whites. The classic traditional styles are examplary, matured in their amazing Cistercian cellars, well worth visiting by appointment.
