Guido Busso founded the family winery in Neive in 1948, and in 1982, his son Piero Busso bottled the family’s very first bottle of Albesani Barbaresco, the vineyard adjoining the winery made famous by Bruno Giacosa. Shortly after, Piero expanded the estate and range, adding Bricco Mondino, Gallina, and San Stunet—a south easterly-exposed, cool site in Treiso producing stunning wines. Finally, in 2010, the family introduced the Barbaresco Albesani Viti Vecchie, made from old vines in Albesani and aged for at least 30 months in botti. Crucially, Piero has always farmed organically, emphasising the importance of maintaining heritage vine material and growing and harvesting healthy, ripe fruit. Today, third-generation Pierguido—a thoughtful and passionate fine wine fanatic—farms 10 hectares of old vines, painstakingly refining longstanding agronomic and winemaking processes. Recent releases, beginning in 2016, from this Barbaresco powerhouse have been unrivalled, ranking among the world’s very best contemporary wines—expect pronounced aromatics and explosive fruit with fine-grained tannins and a long, moreish finish!
